To help celebrate our fifty-fifth wedding anniversary, we have prepared the following online photo album, starting with our friendship/engagement, our wedding, and our early and later life as a family.
Some of you may be wondering about our ages and life situation when we chose to marry. Ron was a school teacher when he proposed marriage to Roberta in the spring of 1963. Roberta was finishing her training as a Registered Nurse (RN) during that summer. We were married in Roberta’s hometown of Flin Flon, Manitoba, September 16. We had 10 days only for a week of honeymoon before we were back to our university city, Saskatoon, where Ron started university again, and Roberta worked as a nurse. We were just 21.
After our marriage both of us did more university training before we had our first child, at age 24. We had our second child three years later, and eventually adopted a third child who was just three years younger than our second one.
We have lived in Regina, Saskatchewan since 1974 when Ron started a 25 year teaching career at the University of Regina (Faculty of Education). After staying home for some years to care for children, and complete a univeristy degree part-time, Roberta was hired as an instructor in the Nursing Department at the Sask Institute of Applied Science and Technology (SIAST, but now named Saskatchewan Polytechnic). She worked for 17 years full-time plus another 10 years part-time.
A photo late in the album below shows the family of our youngest (adopted) child in our home for dinner. This is the family that continues to live closest to us here in Regina.
Two older daughters live in the USA with their families.
The photos selected and displayed here are mostly all scanned from original transparency slides and from prints.
