Album: Travel to Flin Flon 2018 12

Flin Flon is a special place for our family. It is a mining town, where copper, zinc, and gold have been mined from the solid rock for many decades. It is also the hometown of my wife and the place where we were married. It is also the place where I had some great early professional opportunities which led just a few years later to my appointment with the University of Regina (More details on some of this will be in some segments of my Life Story which is currently under development.)

This past week, we travelled to Flin Flon to visit some family and friends that have continued to call this home for more than 50 years ago since we lived and worked there.

The road from Regina to Flin Flon is close to 700 km with almost half of this distance a wilderness road with just a few stopping places along the way for gasoline. In summer months, however, there are many visitors to this area for hunting and fishing. Maps and photos here give some idea of both the quiet land, the place of almost no people, and just a few ideas of the winter beauty that we enjoyed as we travelled this time.

The final picture in the series was taken on our arrival in Flin Flon, just as the sun had set about 4:30 pm. (We had started our journey in the early morning darkness at 7:45 am.)

(Another album in development will highlight some of the city sights that we found on these cold winter days.)

I do have another set of photos online also, taken almost ten years ago. Which may be found here.
