Christmas Travel to New York City
My daughter and family gave us a lovely gift for Christmas this year… tickets to a “music spectacular” in a very famous theatre in New York City. Her family had been there just a few weeks earlier, so she had an itinerary all prepared. It was a two-day excursion by bus from the Washington DC area, with an overnight stay in a friend’s apartment.
We enjoyed three significant events in the immediate vicinity of the Rockefeller Centre, a major complex of skyscraper buildings in the heart of New York. These included a walk through the amazing St Patrick’s Cathedral… viewing the city from the top of the Rockefeller Centre (called “Top of the Rock”)… and viewing the evening performance of “The Rockettes” in the Radio City Music Hall.
The next day, three more fascinating sites were visited. First we took a ferry past the Statue of Liberty in the harbour area. Then we visited Ellis Island, the historic location where millions of new immigrants were processed on their first entrance (by ship) to the USA. Finally, we visited the site of where the twin towers were destroyed in the 2001 9/11 terrorism event.
